January re-Cap

Made it through the first month of the year!  Lots of good moments in the year and a couple bad ones.  For the most part I am super happy with how I have been eating and working out.  I definitely feel like my changes are becoming life change.

I am pleased to report that I lost 5.7lbs this month!  I can not be more happy about that.  My goal for the month was 5lbs and I made it.  As a reward for my hard work and dedication I ordered myself a Monduka pro yoga mat and mat sak, I can not wait for them to get here!!

I dont know if I would be having so much success if it was not for my good friend Christi, she has been so helpful and motivational.  I look forward to meeting her at the gym and catching up each morning on how yesterday went and what the plans for the day are.  Weightloss is much better when you have a friend to share it with.

Jared has also been fantastic.  I cant say enough about him so I wont get started or I will be here all day.

In this month:

-I lost 5.7lbs
- Went to yoga class 13 times
- Ran my first 12 mile training run
-Planned out every weeks meals and stuck to eating as less process as possible
and
- Feel Fantastic!

In the month ahead I want to aim for another 5lbs and continue my yoga.  I want to keep my long runs at 10 miles.  I am going to try something new in February, swimming.  I have signed up for a swim clinic twice a week for 3 weeks.  I am interested to see if I like it and want to incorporate swimming into my routine.

Here is to a great job in January and to a Fabulous February!!

Mirror Less Monday!

So I read in another blog a movement called Mirror Less Mondays.  It is one day out of the week where you use the mirror to get ready and make sure you are matching and all that but then dont look in it again.  Do not use the mirror to judge yourself all day.  Focus on how you are feeling and how your clothes fit and whats going in internally, without judging your appearance.  I am very excited to start this trend.

So, bad news.  I put on weight this week.  1.6lbs to be exact.  Not what I wanted and I certinally know where I went wrong.  Oh well more motivation to keep at it.  I have 2 days to see if I can make it to my goal of 5lbs in January.  We shall see what happens today and tomorrow.  Last week was a rest week and I did not work out nearly as much as I normally do.  On top of that we went out Saturday and Sunday night and Firday night was movie night, during which I ate an entire bag of poppop corn by my lonesome.

I need to at least focus on the positive.  When we ate out I made very good decisions.  At the mexican resturant I had salad with no cheese or bacon.  (Followed that up with 6 beers at the bar) Then yesterday I had the turkey burger and a tomato basil salad.

Which leads me to my new obsession...Tomato, basil, mozzarella salad with balsamic vinager.  So delicious. I have decided that I am going to grow some herbs.  This weekend I might get myself all set up with a small herb garden.

Also, find of the weekend is a thermos that is designed for tea.  Its so cool, had a little place for the bag and a lever that drops it into the water.  LOVE IT.

Here is to making better decisions this coming week!!

Week 4

Down 1.4lbs for a grand total of 4.3lbs!  Yea and I feel fantastic.  I had some really bad days last week but I have been working out and making all my runs so I can tell that made up for them bad days.  This week I have nothing social planned so I can really focus on eating well and staying within my calories.

I went to Hot Yoga 4 times last week and felt fantastic after every class.  This week I have 3 Hot Yoga classes scheduled and am going to see if I can make it to a Friday night class or any kind.  I might do the yoga tape that comes with P90X2 it has a lot of flow in it and I liked the way it was set up.

I ran my first 12 mile training run Sunday, it took me 2 hours and 40 minutes.  That is a long time!  However, I completed the distance.  I hit a wall at mile 9 and had to walk/run the rest of the way in because my legs were just not cooperating.  I feel very confident that I can work on that and be able to make the distance by the time race day comes.  I have 6 weeks before the race week and I plan to get in no shorter distance than 10 miles.  I would really like to do the race in 2 hours and 45 minutes.  I will be working on my speed and stamina over the next few weeks.  The last half marathon I did it took me 3 hours and 10 minutes, I am a slow runner but at least I am out there!  lol

As far as P90X2...I think I am not holding up that end of the deal...I have not done a tape in over a week.  I will try and get some intoday since it is an off day.  I need to work at making time for the P90X2!

This week I plan on attempting to eat no processed foods.  I am taking a note from my friend Christi and trying to eat as close to all natural as possible.  On the menue for this week I have things planned like roasted veggies, stuffed peppers, fish, beef salads, and lots of fruit.

breakthrough moments so far in my first month of the year:  Despite the increased calories that might be in a hand full of almonds they are better for you in the long run than a 100 calorie pack of cookies.  I am done with the 100 calorie packs and with the healthy choice meals at every lunch.  I am saving those for emergency meals or I need something quick.  I am feeling fantastic and motivated to keep it up.

Here is to a great week!!!

Eating Well

As I journal every day and track what goes into my body I have noticed several things:

Teas are awesome.  I am very into the mint and passion fruit teas.  I have been reading some great things about the benefits of tea and have been working 1-2 cups into my diet.  Also, its great when you are hungry at night, a good cup of night time tea is the perfect thing.

I have also noticed that when I eat clean foods that I prepare I feel better.  I enjoy preparing lunch the night before work and having a big salad for lunch.

Oatmeal for breakfast stays with me for a long time and I don't get hungry half an hour after I eat.

Planning out the dinner menu on Sunday's have worked out so well.  I get everything I need and then I have a plan, keeps me from last minuet grabbing something unhealthy from the store.

All of this has also lead to better decisions in restaurants and while eating out.

My new mantra when it comes to eating "If you want to look and perform like an athlete then you need to eat like one"

Favorite Breakfast:
Oatmeal with Greek yogurt, honey, and blueberries.

Favorite Lunch:
Salad with Tuna

Favorite Dinner:
Salmon with veggies

This week I am trying chicken and rice stuffed peppers!  Trying to get one new item in each week till I have tons of different options every day. Pinterest.com is a great source of information!

One last thought, I am working on not obsessing over the calorie count in things, I choose foods that are healthy and the good calorie count just comes.  No prepackaged 100 calorie count snacks for me anymore.

Just because its healthy does not mean its have to be icky!

Week 3

Today was quite a day in the gym!  Christi and I did the treadmil for an hour (I ran 5 miles) then we met with Van for 45 minutes and did the hardest work out yet with him, then we hit up Hot Yoga.  It was great.  I feel so great and fit and ready for the week.

I am down another .4lbs.  So that makes a total of 2.9 lbs since January 1st.  Not bad.  I would really like to be down 5 lbs this month.  I know I can do it.  I really let things with eating get out of control last week.

First full week of the Yoga workshop was cool.  I am really glad that I did it.  I was able to take 3 classes last week.  I am signed up for 4 this week.  I learned something pretty cool from one of the other girls, she said not to let food be a reward for working out and don't let working out be punishment to make up for eating.  They should be separate items.  I am going to really work on that, I tend to allow myself to eat a little more when I work out harder and I eat bad at lunch knowing I will be working out after work.  So, this week I am going to focus on keeping under my calorie count and working out hard.

Challenge of the week:
Getting my butt out of bed and into the gym before work to get my run's in and then getting to Yoga after work.

This is week 10 of my running program and on a note of awesomeness I ran 11 miles Saturday!!  Think about that for a second....2 years ago I could not run 1 mile without feeling like I was going to pass out.  I am so proud of where I have been and where I am now.  I think about things like this when I run, be proud of what you have accomplished.  Think about how far you have come and keep pushing because one day this moment is going to be that "where I have been" moments.

Hot Yoga

Went to Hot Yoga last night, second time this week.

Guess What!  I did Crow Pose!!! Fist time ever, I am so proud.

Its amazing how great I feel when I leave the class.  I am sopping wet, cant see through my eyes for all the sweat dripping into them but cant stop smiling.  I am so glad that I found this class, granted it is not for everyone but I totally think this is my thing.

P90X2 has a great yoga routein, I think it is better than the one on P90X.  I will be doing that also once a week.  I have done it twice and I know that after a could weeks of this I am going to have ripped shoulders!

That makes 2 yoga classes this week and I still have my Sunday practice.  I need to probably take more time to meditate durring the day, I have been slacking on that but week one of the program is going well.

Battle with the Bagel

I survived the BCS National Championship game!  Alabama won, it was a shut out against LSU.  The people in my house celebrated until 4pm the following day!   It was completely crazy but a good time.

I managed not to eat and drink everything in sight.  I even tried to track some of the foods and get a good estimate.  I did not drink till I blacked out and I was not found in a puddle of cheese dip.  It was one day and I have managed to recover well.  I have maintained my calorie levels, with the exception of that day, and have worked out.

Today was a little rough because I brought in Bagels for the team.  Yes I was the one that initiated the problem!  It was my turn do bring in breakfast and I did not know it until the end of the work day Wednesday.  I had no motivation to hit up with grocery store after the gym as it was cold and raining.  So, Panera it was.  However, when it comes to bagels and cream cheese I have no control over myself.  I had one at breakfast and then went about my day...around 9:30 I could smell the bagels in the next cube...my stomach was growling and I was practically salivating.  I just had another half WITH cream cheese but was so disappointed that I could not get control over my emotions.  I wanted that bagel and by gorge I was going to have it!  I need to get better control over my will power and my drive to do things.  If I had worked out that morning I feel I would have been able to resist...been able to not undo all of the work I had done but I did not even think about it...I thought "oh ill go to the gym later"  which for the reccord I did not go for a run as today is a scheduled off day and my knee is killing me.  So, hot yoga tonight better be intense because I have lots of carbs to work off.

I was feeling so good last week when I was eating well and working out.  I need to get back into that swing of things and keep it up.  I have been eating less processed foods and almost cleansing myself of processed foods, which feels good.  I have overall been making better decisions through out the week.  Just need to keep it up.  I am interested to see if I lost any weight this week.  Last week I kicked booty and lost 2.5 lbs, this week I feel I will be lucky if I drop 1.

Road Blocks this Weekend
-We have friends coming in from Canada and will be going to dinner with them on Sunday night
-Saturday is my Mom's birthday so we might go and see her
- Lucas is to be in town so we will probably go out to eat with him while he is here

Also I am scheduled to run 11 miles on Satruday
I have yoga on Sunday
Monday I have a day of fitness planned: 5 mile run at 9, training session with Van at 10:30 and Hot Yoga at 11:45.  It should be an awesome day if I can accomplish all of those things.

Jared will be with his dad most of Monday so I hope I can get some great fitness in and then have some R&R time.

Stay Tuned to see what happens!!!
